New opportunity for fiber optic Link in the Territory

The Alaska Power and Telephone Company is planning to run a new fiber optic line linking Juneau to Haines and Skagway. The new line is slated to be built this year in 2015 and AP&T hopes that the fiber optic line can eventually be linked to the Yukon Territory to offer better broadband service.

AP&T’s Chief Operating Officer Michael Garrett stated: “The Lynn Canal Fiber project offers us the unique regional opportunity to advance the goals of both the State of Alaska as they relate to Higher Speed Broadband services, the Yukon Territory’s growing need for additional data transport capacity; while providing our own broadband subscribers a robust internet experience year-round.”
