Alaska Power & Telephone (AP&T) today announced with great sorrow the unexpected November 18th passing of William A. Squires, its Executive Chairman of the Board, whose expertise and leadership beginning in 2003, helped guide AP&T from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, to a place of becoming one of the best-performing utility companies in Alaska.

“The whole of our AP&T family is greatly saddened by the loss of our esteemed colleague and friend. Our thoughts are with his wife Sherry, sons Ashton and Tucker and the entire Squires family during this difficult time,” said Michael Garrett, AP&T’s newly-tapped incoming CEO. “Bill’s steady and unswerving manner, coupled with his ability to put people at ease with his genuine warmth and smile quickly endeared him to all he came in contact with. His presence will be deeply missed by the entire AP&T family.”

Robert Grimm, President and CEO of AP&T said, “Bill willingly stepped into a leadership role during a challenging time, and proved to have both the skills and temperament to rally those around him to give their very best moving forward. Though too humble to admit it, those closest to him will quickly vouch for that fact that much of AP&T’s success this past 13+ years can be traced back to Bill’s leadership, passion for the industry and respect for the people with whom he worked”

“As his friend, I’m grateful to Bill for his mentorship and counsel. As Employee-Owners we’re grateful to Bill for everything he did to help position us for our company’s future success.” stated Michael Garrett.

Bill Squires Esq., served as member of AP&T’s Board of Directors beginning in 2003, assuming the role of Board Chairman from 2010 through November 2016. He had previously held the position of Chief General Counsel for Blackfoot in Missoula Montana and was elevated to serving as Blackfoot’s CEO in 2012.
